Features: Since the publication of A Guide to Social Survey (Revised Edition) in April 1996, it has been more than six years. If we count from August 1994 when the manuscript was finalized, it has been more than eight years. These eight years have been a time of great changes in the world, a period of rapid development in China, and also a time of continuous progress in social survey and the study of social survey. Compared to these eight years at the turn of the century, A Guide to Social Survey (Revised Edition) has become outdated in both content and form, requiring a thorough revision. From April 1996 to March 2002, A Guide to Social Survey (Revised Edition) has been printed nine times and distributed 91,000 copies, with an average annual distribution of around 15,000 copies. This is nearly a 50% increase compared to the average annual distribution of about 10,000 copies from June 1988 to April 1996 of A Guide to Social Survey. Clearly, this textbook has formed a relatively stable readership since its publication, and the annual distribution continues to rise. According to a survey of 300 sales records, which account for 33.1% (56,951 copies) of the total distribution, A Guide to Social Survey and its revised edition have covered 289 units in 27 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. The readers are mainly: faculty and students of social science disciplines in higher education institutions, teachers and students in various types of party schools, administrative schools, and training classes at all levels, researchers in various types of social science research institutes at all levels, and staff in research departments of government agencies, public institutions, and enterprises at all levels. To better revise A Guide to Social Survey (Revised Edition) and meet the actual needs of the above readership, we have visited some readers and conducted some correspondence surveys.
