Features: Civil law holds a very important position in a national legal system. It regulates the personal and property relationships between equal civil subjects, grants civil rights to these subjects, and protects these rights with the state's coercive power. Over its long history of development, civil law has undergone thousands of years of evolution, playing an irreplaceable role in socio-economic development and the protection of civil subjects' rights. During China's socialist development period, civil law has played an increasingly significant role in granting and protecting the civil rights of citizens and legal persons in socialist states. Especially at the turn of the century, the realities of China's socialist construction have profoundly demonstrated that civil law plays an extremely important role in building a socialist market economy, regulating market transaction order, and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of civil subjects. Precisely for this reason, people's attention to civil law has never been as fervent as it is today, and people's emphasis on civil law has never been as extreme as it is today. China's civil law development is currently facing a critical stage of formulating a Chinese Civil Code and achieving civil law codification. It is in a key stage of development. It is believed that after China's civil law achieves codification, this important legal work will play an even more significant role in all aspects of social life. Civil law teaching is one of the most important courses in legal professional colleges and universities. Whether it is legal education in ordinary full-time universities or legal education in higher vocational and technical colleges, civil law must be regarded as a fundamental professional course and taught seriously to enable students to fully master the basic principles and various specific rules of civil law. It should be particularly emphasized that civil law is a highly practical applied law, and civil law studies is also a legal discipline that places great emphasis on practice. Learning civil law must emphasize the connection between theory and practice, not only mastering theory but also mastering the practical application of civil law. Through the study of civil law, one can apply the basic principles and specific rules of civil law to handle various relationships in civil circulation, correctly recognize and analyze various civil disputes, and properly resolve them, truly achieving the goal of applying what one learns. This textbook attempts to make such an effort: at the beginning of each chapter, it introduces specific cases related to the chapter content, and at the end of the chapter, it conducts case analysis combined with the introduction of key points. Whether this attempt is successful or not needs to be tested in teaching practice. Civil law is profound and extensive, with extremely rich and broad content, involving all areas of social life and relating to the spiritual and material lives of every member of society. In such a concise textbook, it is extremely difficult to introduce all the content of civil law. Moreover, due to the author's limited civil law expertise and the constraints of writing time, this textbook will inevitably contain many errors and omissions. Scholars and experts are requested to identify problems during teaching and provide corrections. It should be noted that, due to the overall design of this textbook series, specialized books on "Contract Law" and "Intellectual Property Law" have been specifically written. Therefore, this textbook does not cover the content of contract law and intellectual property law, and this point should be noted when using this book.
