Features: This book is compiled based on the "Basic Requirements for Teaching of Theoretical Mechanics" issued by the State Education Commission for 70-80 class hours. It is suitable for corresponding majors in engineering colleges. Considering the increasing entry level of students, their solid theoretical foundation from prerequisite courses, and the continuous reduction of class hours, the original structure of the textbook has been reformed without lowering the basic requirements. The textbook is now divided into two parts: Kinematics and Dynamics, with the content of statics taught in the corresponding chapters of Dynamics. Since the late 1980s, the compilers have been teaching according to the new structure system and have achieved good teaching results. The lecture notes have been continuously revised and supplemented in teaching practice over the years, gradually forming this textbook. It is now officially published, hoping to exchange with peer institutions and humbly accept criticism.
The treatment of statics content in dynamics is as follows: the concept and properties of force, constraints and constraint reactions, fundamental laws of dynamics, and force diagram analysis and friction are taught as basic concepts of dynamics in Chapter 5. After the fundamental laws of dynamics in Chapter 6, the simplification of force systems is taught in Chapter 7 from the perspective of particle system dynamics. In the eleventh chapter, following the general theorems of particle system dynamics, the special motion state where the acceleration of all points on a rigid body is simultaneously zero, i.e., the equilibrium of the rigid body, is studied. Starting from the general spatial force system, various equilibrium equations of force systems are derived, and the D'Alembert principle, which solves dynamic problems using static methods, is presented in the twelfth chapter. This arrangement ensures a natural connection, a complete structure, and a stronger systematicity of theory.
This book covers kinematics and dynamics. The former includes the motion of a point, composite motion, basic motion of rigid bodies, and translation, among others. The latter includes fundamental concepts of dynamics, simplification of force systems in particle dynamics, the principle of momentum, the principle of moment of momentum, the principle of kinetic energy, statics of rigid bodies, the D'Alembert principle, analytical mechanics, and the basics of mechanical vibration.
