Author: Gaojiao Politics Editorial Department
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-07-19
Features: As a premium study guide for round review of political theory for postgraduate entrance exams, this book has been published for the fifth time this year. Since its first publication by Higher Education Press in 2003, it has been highly praised by a vast number of candidates and teaching assistants. The 2004 edition was published by China Renmin University Press, and since 2005, it has been exclusively published by Xinhua Press. Below is an introduction to the issues commonly concerned by candidates:
I. Introduction to the Writing and Revision of This Book
(1) The 2003 edition of this book was published by Higher Education Press. The original intention was to complement the Political Theory Examination Reference Book (later renamed Outline Interpretation in its 2007 edition) compiled by the Department of Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education and the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education. The greatest advantage of the Reference Book is its accurate and standardized elaboration of the knowledge points assessed in the Examination Outline. However, due to the special status and influence of its organizing and writing units, it could not provide "inclined" analysis or prediction of knowledge points. Based on this, in "2002, at the request of many teachers and students, experts involved in revising the outline and setting questions published a supplementary guide for teachers' teaching and students' review under the name of the 'Postgraduate Question Research Group'—Political Theory Examination Essentials." (Quoted from the preface of the 2003 edition of Political Theory Examination Essentials).
(2) The writing features of Examination Essentials mainly include:
First, in the elaboration of knowledge points, it maintains high consistency with the Outline Interpretation and Analysis of Examination Questions.
Second, it comprehensively elaborates on knowledge points that were not fully explained or not explained at all in the Outline Interpretation and Analysis of Examination Questions.
Third, it provides "inclined" analysis and prediction of knowledge points, helping candidates understand which points require focused mastery and which can be understood superficially. At the same time, it strives to select and analyze authoritative materials as much as possible. For example, the analysis of the knowledge point "the highest program and the lowest program" in 2003 referenced Comrade Mao Zedong's response to the British journalist Stein on the relationship between the "ideological system of communism" and the "communist social system," which directly became the 35th question in 2003. Furthermore, the further analysis of this issue became an important part of the "standard answer" to the exam question. Additionally, comparative analysis of other related knowledge points became the questions and answers for a large number of multiple-choice and identification questions in 2003. The 2003 edition of Examination Essentials was reprinted five times and received strong recognition from candidates and teachers.
(3) Regarding the simulated questions in the original Higher Education Press edition of Examination Essentials. The simulated questions in the original Higher Education Press edition were scientifically and authoritatively written, closely aligned with the Examination Outline. Starting in 2004, due to certain reasons, Examination Essentials no longer provided simulated exercises in the main text. Despite this, the exercises from the original Higher Education Press edition of Examination Essentials were still widely used by candidates through online or other means, benefiting tens of thousands of students. This year, through our efforts, the exercises from the original Higher Education Press edition of Examination Essentials have finally been made publicly available again. Our editorial board's question-setting experts not only adapted the simulated questions from the original Higher Education Press edition but also shared with us their "" ( means "" in Chinese, but here it is used as a metaphor for carefully stored resources). These "" questions, after adaptation, can now be publicly published to benefit our students.
II. Some Suggestions for a Comprehensive Review of Political Theory (July to November)
(1) Thoroughly read the Examination Outline and Analysis of Examination Questions to build an overall framework for the political disciplines. The tasks are: familiarize yourself with the revision of the Examination Outline and read the 2007 edition of Analysis of Examination Questions, so you can grasp the content and direction of the exam at a macro level. This year, our editorial board will continue to compile Analysis of Political Examination (Super Memorization Version) to scientifically predict the question-setting direction of the knowledge points stipulated in the Examination Outline and provide a good summary of the question-setting situation of these knowledge points. Additionally, the book will offer memory techniques for candidates who struggle to remember political theory knowledge points.
(2) Carefully read Examination Essentials or Outline Interpretation to fully understand and master the knowledge points. The key is to clarify: First, how the knowledge points in the Examination Outline are analyzed and elaborated; second, which content has been used in questions, and which content has been repeatedly tested, with what angles each time. This requires candidates to identify the characteristics and patterns of question-setting for knowledge points, and on this basis, determine which content needs to be understood and memorized, and which content is only necessary for the completeness of the discipline and does not require in-depth review. Regarding study methods, our suggestion is: In the foundational stage, candidates should thoroughly study Examination Essentials to deepen their understanding and memory of knowledge points and solidify their foundation. Pay special attention to the bold parts in Examination Essentials, and repeatedly study the "Question-Setting Analysis and Prediction" in the book, as the phrases with "question-setting inclination" are very important for guiding our review. Practice has proven that candidates who use both Outline Interpretation and Examination Essentials for political theory review achieve relatively outstanding results.
(3) Practice exercises to consolidate and deepen the understanding and mastery of knowledge points. In this stage, candidates should first familiarize themselves with past exam questions, as the experience of high-scoring candidates is "past questions are better than anything else." We recommend candidates use the book Analysis of Past Postgraduate Political Theory Exam Questions and Review Methods published by Xinhua Press. The main part of this book is organized according to the subject order of knowledge points in the Examination Outline, making it convenient for candidates to read and summarize the characteristics and patterns of question-setting for knowledge points. This book was first compiled by several experienced question-setters in 2002 and published by Higher Education Press, and it is now in its fourth edition. Due to its accurate question analysis and scientific summary of question-setting patterns, it has been called the "national postgraduate political theory past question book" by candidates. At the same time, the book also provides candidates with complete past postgraduate exam questions from 1997 to 2006 for self-assessment.
To further serve candidates using our "official books," we began in July 2006 to include "learning cards" in every book published by our editorial department. Candidates can use the serial number, card number, and password provided on the learning card to log in to the Higher Education Postgraduate Entrance Exam website: www.kaoyanren.com, and enjoy the "special services" provided by the editorial department:
(1) Enjoy professional course tutoring. Editors specializing in liberal arts or science and engineering from the editorial department provide free Q&A services for candidates applying to majors such as journalism, Chinese, history, philosophy, political science, public administration, economics, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, etc. For specific information, please refer to the book.
(2) Free download of materials or past exam questions from various universities for professional courses.
(3) Free access to classroom notes and simulated questions for politics and English from postgraduate entrance exam tutoring classes.
Due to the urgency of time, there may inevitably be errors and omissions in the book. We hope to receive feedback from candidates from all sides to make it even better in the next edition.
