Features: This dictionary features a simple and flexible format, allowing readers to easily find what they need with minimal effort. Between 1985 and 1998, approximately ten to twelve English-Chinese and Chinese-English legal dictionaries were published domestically. Among them, there were both strengths and weaknesses, with errors and corrections mixed together, making it difficult for readers to choose. Recognizing this, the compilers of this dictionary have over the years observed and analyzed the pros and cons of various English-Chinese and Chinese-English legal terms in response to the needs of legal scholars and practitioners. Based on accumulated original materials, they have organized and selected the following entries—298 English-Chinese terms and 395 Chinese-English terms, totaling 693, for reference by legal professionals. The dictionary is titled E-C/C-E Corrective Glossary of Legal Terms. Each entry in this dictionary first identifies existing errors or omissions, then provides arguments for the correct translation or corrections to prevent readers from being misled by other English-Chinese or Chinese-English legal dictionaries. The errors, suggestions, and arguments are generally accompanied by references or sources for credibility. As a result, more than 20 domestic and international legal dictionaries (including English, American, Japanese, Australian, mainland Chinese, and Hong Kong legal books in Chinese, English, and Japanese) have been cited. Using this dictionary allows readers to consult multiple sources at once. This dictionary compiles the strengths of various legal dictionaries and pioneers a methodological approach in systematically summarizing, analyzing, and correcting errors in English-Chinese and Chinese-English legal dictionaries, a feat without precedent. It is inevitable that there may be some immaturity in this endeavor. We hope to receive the support, assistance, and corrections of our readers to ensure this dictionary can withstand the test of time, continue to improve, and lay a foundation for legal professionals and comprehensive bilingual dictionaries to a new path toward the 21st century.
