Features: The "Civil Code Collection" constitutes one of the most important foundations of contemporary world legal development, and can even be said to be the most important foundation. The translated work presented to the readers is the first complete translation of one volume of the "Civil Code Collection" into Chinese, accompanied by the original Latin text. It was initially composed of three parts and later expanded to include a fourth part. The first part is the "Principles of Law," which is a textbook consisting of four chapters, but its main content is actually derived from previous textbooks, particularly from the "Institutes" of Gaius, which were produced around 162 AD. The second part, which is also the most important part, is the "Digesta," a legal compilation divided into 50 volumes, containing writings attributed to the so-called classical jurists, primarily their commentaries, collections of legal answers, collections of legal questions, and specialized treatises. The third part of the "Civil Code Collection" is the "Codex Justinianus." This is a compilation of decrees issued by the Roman emperors since Emperor Hadrian, divided into 12 volumes. However, only important excerpts from the decrees are typically included in the codex. The scattered content involves canon law, legal sources, and the law of public officials, private law and procedural law, criminal law and administrative law. After the legislative work of the aforementioned third part was completed in 534 AD, further revisions and additions of specific laws were made, known as the "Novellae." Although these were not formally compiled, the compilers of the "Civil Code Collection" later included them as the fourth part of this legislation.
