Features: The distinctive feature of this textbook lies in its new structural model and pedagogical reform design, serving as a blueprint for innovative teaching materials and methods. To further refine the new teaching model embodied in the textbook, the author conducted experiments in the undergraduate law program at Southwest University of Political Science and Law from September 1997 to January 1999. The experiment gradually expanded its scope, using this new textbook and adopting the innovative teaching methods for classroom instruction. The results demonstrated that the new teaching approach not only transformed the traditional "cramming" lecture model in form but, more importantly, effectively activated students' learning enthusiasm, shifting them from passive listeners to active self-learners and participants in class discussions. Students transitioned from being mere objects of instruction to becoming the subjects of teaching, moving from "learning because I have to" to "learning because I want to." The teaching content became "lively" due to the adoption of a case-analysis discussion format, moving beyond abstract theories and rigid legal provisions. This sparked students' strong interest in both the theoretical understanding and practical application of the subject.
Building on these experimental findings, the Ministry of Justice organized a workshop from May 11 to 23, 1998, at Southwest University of Political Science and Law, attended by over 20 law schools (departments) and more than 40 teachers who taught this course. Through classroom observations and discussions, numerous valuable suggestions were proposed, laying a solid foundation for the revision of the textbook. For this revised edition, the chief editor invited three young scholars—Sun Changyong, Yang Jianchang, and Gao Yifei—to join the revision team. As a result, the names of these three colleagues were added to the list of authors. The revised edition was uniformly edited and finalized by the chief editor, Professor Xu Jingcun.
