What is prostatic calcification?

Patient's question:

Doctor, recently one of my colleagues hasn't come to work for three or four days. I asked his colleague in the same office what was going on. He only said he had prostatic calcification. I asked what that meant. He didn't understand either. Doctor, what exactly is prostatic calcification?

Doctor's answer:

The prostate is not a static organ; as one ages, it gradually becomes fibrotic and enlarged. During the process of fibrosis and regeneration, the prostate may develop retained cysts again. Sometimes, these cysts can also undergo fibrosis again, which are all normal physiological phenomena. If there are no symptoms in the urinary or reproductive systems, it is not considered a disease, and no medical intervention is necessary. Prostate calcification can be recovered, but the treatment period is usually long, and the condition is prone to recurrence after treatment.
