How to treat candidal balanitis

Patient's question:

Candidal balanitis disappeared after using clotrimazole ointment, but I noticed pearly papules on the glans penis. Can erythromycin ointment remove them? How is candidal balanitis treated?

Doctor's answer:

Circumcisionitis is generally treated both internally and externally. For the treatment of acute superficial balanitis and annular purulent balanitis, erythromycin and sulfa drugs are the first-line choices. Typically, 0.5g is taken four times daily. For trichomoniasis balanitis, metronidazole is the preferred treatment. 0.2g is taken three times daily. Alternate treatments for 10 days. For candidal balanitis caused by Candida, it is common to use griseofulvin or itraconazole. Griseofulvin is administered at a dose of 100,000 to 200,000 units twice daily. Additionally, in daily life, it is important to avoid overexertion and pay attention to personal hygiene.
