Is it uncomfortable after pediatric hernia surgery?

Patient's question:

The child had a hernia surgery as recommended by the doctor. It was just done, and there are still some things I don't quite understand. The child keeps telling me she's in a lot of pain. Hearing her crying, my heart aches so much. I want to ask, how long does it usually take for pain like this to last?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, after this hernia surgery, the pain usually subsides after 3 days. After the anesthesia wears off, the child may experience pain. You can try to distract them by engaging them with their favorite toys or watching their favorite cartoons or playing mobile games. Within the first week after surgery, try to lie flat and avoid jumping activities. Avoid strenuous exercise for 3 months. Avoid colds and coughing, as they can increase abdominal pressure, causing the stitches at the hernia site to fall out and leading to recurrence of the hernia. Eat a light diet and avoid constipation.
