My edited series Judicial Countermeasures for Difficult Civil Disputes has been published since 1990 and has now reached its 14th volume, receiving warm acclaim from readers. During my investigations and visits to various People's Courts, People's Procuratorates, and law firms, I have often seen this series placed on the desks of judges, procurators, and lawyers, and heard them speak of how the series has helped them solve practical problems. As a civil law theorist, a former judge and prosecutor with extensive experience in judicial practice, it fills me with immense pride and satisfaction to see that my own compiled and organized legal articles, when published, have played such a role and been so well-received by readers.
After discussions with the publisher and consultations with the head of the Civil and Commercial Law Research Center at Renmin University of China, we have decided to revise this series starting from this volume. The Civil and Commercial Law Research Center at Renmin University of China will serve as the host institution, with me as the editor-in-chief, and the series will be renamed Judicial Countermeasures for Tort Law. The primary focus will be on the theory and judicial practice of tort law, with articles primarily based on my own works, supplemented by contributions from other scholars, experts, and my students to reflect the latest achievements and trends in tort law research in China. The goal is to introduce the fundamental issues and developments in tort law abroad, thereby promoting the study of tort law theory and practice in China and advancing the nation's legal progress.
The reason for this revision is mainly that the role of tort law in daily life is becoming increasingly important, and its position in the national legal system is also growing. This is evident not only in the heightened public awareness, understanding, and interest in tort law but also in the continuous increase in the number and complexity of tort cases in the judicial field. More and more complex tort cases often perplex judges, lawyers, and parties, who struggle to find concrete solutions. By establishing this series, we hope to provide guidance for theoretical research and judicial practice, offering specific countermeasures—just as Judicial Countermeasures for Difficult Civil Disputes did—so that it continues to be well-received by judges, procurators, lawyers, and parties. Our ultimate goal is to help them resolve practical issues in handling tort cases.
I warmly welcome all readers to pay attention to this revised series and to follow our research on tort law, striving tirelessly to develop and flourish tort law in China. Of course, when studying tort law, it is inevitable to touch upon other aspects of civil and commercial law. Therefore, we may occasionally publish articles on civil and commercial law theory and practice related to tort law research.
Whether this revision is successful and whether readers will continue to enjoy this series will depend on the specific content of the books. Therefore, my remarks will end here, and I invite readers to share their comments on the series.
