Is a newborn jaundice index of 155 high?

Patient's question:

Newborn jaundice index 155. My baby is 13 days old. The jaundice level on the chest is 19.8, and on the head is 17.8. After one day of blue light treatment, it dropped to 15. Can I be discharged after another day of treatment?

Doctor's answer:

Jaundice is divided into physiological jaundice. It occurs 2-3 days after birth. The peak occurs on days 4-6. It subsides within 7-10 days. Premature infants have a longer duration. Except for mild loss of appetite, there are no other clinical symptoms. If jaundice occurs within 24 hours after birth and does not subside within 2-3 weeks, or if it deepens or recurs after subsiding, or if jaundice only begins 1 week to several weeks after birth, these are all pathological jaundice. For physiological jaundice, it is recommended to start feeding as early as possible. For pathological jaundice, it is recommended to go to the hospital for phototherapy or traditional Chinese medicine treatment. Wishing you good health.
