The maid Xiuxiang spread the news to Yugu, who became despondent. Just then, Cao Wenghuang suddenly returned for a family visit. Unprepared, Zhang Baifan sent his steward to poison Cao Wenghuang. Yugu saved the young master Cao, and the two eloped. They came to their older sister Jingu's door but couldn't get in and had to leave. As soon as they left, Zhang Baifan and his men gave chase, climbing over the wall and prying the door open. They found Jingu sitting motionless on a large cabinet, which raised their suspicions.
