Features: After losing his parents, young Pip is raised by his sister. During a visit to his parents' graves, he saves the escaped convict Magwitch. Later, he comes to live with the spinster Miss Havisham, and gradually his adopted sister Estella develops feelings for him. As Pip grows up, he becomes a blacksmith like his sister's husband and, like all lower-class youth of his time, he dreams of entering high society and becoming a "respectable person." At this moment, a miracle happens. The work is full of unconventional and bizarre ideas, with suspense at every turn. By describing the process of a young man's shattered dreams, it exposes the cruelty of that dark century, mocks vanity and hypocrisy, and praises the virtues of integrity and kindness.
