What are the symptoms of inguinal hernia in boys?

Patient's question:

My child at home has recently felt pain in their lower abdomen. They were even too afraid to urinate when they went to the bathroom. Then they went to the hospital for a check-up, and the doctor said it was a case of hernia. Could you please tell me what are the symptoms of a hernia in boys?

Doctor's answer:

After a boy gets an inguinal hernia, a bulge may appear in the groin during crying, defecation, urination, or strenuous exercise. When the child rests, the lump may shrink or temporarily disappear, only to recur later. Sometimes, touching the lump may cause pain, or even lead to abdominal pain. In some cases, it may also cause symptoms of intestinal obstruction such as vomiting, abdominal distension, and difficulty defecating.
