Is a hernia the same as a hydrocele?

Patient's question:

A child is less than two months old. I don't know if this is a hernia or a hydrocele. I don't know what to do. If it is, what is the disease, and how is it treated? Is a hernia the same as a hydrocele?

Doctor's answer:

Hello, a hernia and hydrocele are not the same thing. Undescended testes refer to congenital testicles that have not descended into the scrotum, mostly located in the inguinal region, accounting for about 70%. In some cases, the affected testes may be found below the kidneys, within the abdominal cavity, or near the external inguinal ring. The most common type of hernia is an inguinal hernia, where abdominal organs protrude through a weak area in the inguinal region into the scrotum or abdominal wall. Therefore, undescended testes and hernias are two different conditions.
