Can infants with external hydrocephalus receive vaccinations?

Patient's question:

My child is now 4 months old. A brain CT scan revealed external hydrocephalus, and the doctor recommended a follow-up scan in 2 months. I would like to know if it is safe to receive vaccines such as DTP, HIB, and oral polio vaccine before the hydrocephalus disappears. All of these vaccines were administered in the first 3 months before the CT scan was performed. Could this have any impact on the child? Please help me with an answer. Thank you!

Doctor's answer:

Hello, your baby can receive vaccinations. This type of external hydrocephalus is mainly due to brain developmental issues, not caused by brain circulation disorders from trauma or infections. External hydrocephalus is usually detected before six months of age. For treating external hydrocephalus, the earlier the intervention, the better. Generally, the most ideal treatment results require early intervention to ensure normal future growth and development. External hydrocephalus is primarily absorbed by children around two years old. In some cases, hydrocephalus can transform into true hydrocephalus, which is characterized by ventricle enlargement. Monitor the changes in ventricles dynamically.
