Patient's question:
What should I do if semen does not liquefy? Will it affect a man's fertility? Additionally, I would like to ask which treatment method is best for treating non-liquefying semen.Doctor's answer:
Under normal circumstances, sperm liquefies within 30 minutes after ejaculation. If it takes longer than 30 minutes, it is considered prolonged liquefaction; if it takes longer than 60 minutes, it is considered non-liquefiable. Prolonged liquefaction can reduce the chances of pregnancy, while non-liquefaction may lead to infertility. The coagulation of semen is caused by coagulation proteins produced by the seminal vesicles. On the other hand, liquefaction is the result of a series of proteolytic enzymes excreted by the prostate, known as liquefying factors. Therefore, if the prostate and seminal vesicles experience inflammation again, leading to dysfunction of their excretory function, it can either enhance the coagulation factors or increase the liquefying factors, resulting in prolonged liquefaction time of semen.
