Does infant hernia cause crying?

Patient's question:

Your good friend's baby has just come home after having a hernia surgery, but the baby has been crying constantly and not eating well. We are all very worried about the baby, fearing there might be other issues. Can you tell us if babies cry after pediatric hernia surgery?

Doctor's answer:

Pediatric inguinal hernia is one of the most common diseases in pediatric surgery and hernia surgery, mainly including congenital inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia. A diet containing fiber is usually necessary for preventing constipation. Children under one year old are treated conservatively, while those over one year old undergo surgical treatment. Pediatric inguinal hernia can be surgically treated, but it may occasionally recur after surgery. If the child cries and the hernia cannot be retracted, it may indicate an inguinal hernia strangulation, and emergency treatment should be sought immediately. If postoperative wound pain causes the child to cry, it is advisable to seek medical attention.
