Features: The Higher Education Self-Study Examination for the Art and Craft Design major, established in 1993, is a significant measure to meet social needs and cultivate applied professional talents in the field of art and design. It also serves as an important component of the multi-channel development of higher art and design education. This examination format, combining national assessment, social tutoring, and individual self-study, has gained widespread popularity and has, to some extent, promoted and advanced the development of art and craft design. From the perspective of China's social needs, the Beijing Higher Education Self-Study Examination Committee has adjusted the self-study examination programs, establishing more scientifically and rationally defined objectives and specifications for professional training. Building upon the appropriate enrichment and updating of the original program's knowledge structure, greater emphasis has been placed on the cultivation of professional qualities. The ratio of foundational courses, basic professional courses, and professional courses has been increased, with a strong focus on the assessment of professional skills, making it more aligned with social demands and more contemporary, reflecting the standards and requirements for cultivating and selecting new-generation professionals.
To adapt to this trend, the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University has organized a team of expert professors to compile professional textbooks for the Higher Education Self-Study Examination in three fields: Fashion Design, Interior Design, and Visual Communication Design. The entire series consists of 23 textbooks, characterized by rich content, extensive information, strong professional skills, and broad coverage of knowledge. While adhering to the principles of higher art and design education, this series of textbooks clearly defines the professional knowledge and skills standards that students must master. In accordance with the basic norms of higher education self-study examination programs, the textbooks also specify the depth and proficiency required for students to acquire art and design professional knowledge, as well as the quantitative standards for assignments and comprehensive evaluation criteria for each course. During the compilation process, the textbooks have also strived to exhibit distinct scientific rigor and contemporary characteristics, ensuring detailed and verifiable information, strong readability, and a focus on professional features and occupational-oriented traits.
It is hoped that this series of textbooks will help numerous students fully grasp and understand the principles and methods of art and design, thereby improving their professional competence. As self-study examination textbooks, they will also play an important role in guiding and refining the tutoring assistance system, as well as in adjusting and standardizing private teaching systems. Additionally, this series of textbooks is also suitable for use in higher and secondary art schools in art and design programs.
