Features: Access 2003 is one of the applications in Office 2003 Professional Edition or Enterprise Edition. It is a "database management system" with strong functionality and easy-to-use features, capable of establishing single-machine or master-slave database applications on computers. Among all database systems currently on the market, Access 2003 should be the most user-friendly and is an advanced database management system and application development environment. In terms of data integration, Access operations provide a robust solution, integrating all database components—such as tables, queries, forms, modules, reports, macros, etc.—into a single file. Access can easily create and manage "database systems," extending the functionality of the Excel application and enabling seamless interaction with Excel. Moreover, it handles significantly more records than Excel, making it an entry-level database application and a "conversion center" for various data imports and exports, equipped with strong capabilities. However, simply knowing how to operate Access 2003 is not enough. The functionality of Access 2003 cannot be fully realized, and it also fails to meet the actual needs of "users." At this point, "VBA program code" must be used to meet the requirements of clients and designers, ensuring that Access meets automated and accurate standards. This book adopts a focused and easy-to-understand approach to VBA application, allowing users to quickly grasp the essence of VBA design and understand the variations in program applications. This makes it suitable for "beginners" or "users with basic Access knowledge," enabling them to quickly and smoothly enter the field of VBA design.
In the earlier chapters of this book, "Chapter 1" focuses on introducing the basic operations of Access and fundamental database concepts. "Chapter 2" and "Chapter 3" explain the concept of operation automation and VBA program code through macros, followed by an in-depth exploration of module architecture, access, and management once the concept of VBA program code is understood. "Chapter 4" introduces the design environment of the VB Editor window. The VB Editor design environment is an independent operational environment similar to Visual Basic program code design, but VBA utilizes the Access object model and can leverage various reference object models. "Chapter 5" covers form design, as VBA program code can use forms as interfaces, so a basic understanding of form design is essential. "Chapter 6" provides a clear explanation of menus and toolbars, which play important roles in forms or applications, allowing users to easily manage toolbars or menus through program code. "Chapter 7" introduces the DAO object for accessing Jet databases, including how to set references and how to operate Jet databases through objects. "Chapter 8" explores the design of "message dialogs" and "error handling," both of which are crucial for program error management and information provision, enabling more complete and professional application design. The book illustrates these concepts with concise and powerful examples. "Chapter 9" explains how to use the ADO object model (a later database object model) to create recordset objects and query objects, as well as how to edit and manage records. "Chapter 10" introduces the practical design of VBA flow commands using the Recordset model, providing a detailed explanation of the basic applications of flow commands, as they are a critical concept in many programs and many functions are achieved through different flow commands. "Chapter 11" discusses file import and export and explains how to use VBA program code to perform various file and data conversions. "Chapter 12" focuses on converting databases into HTML or ASP files and how to publish these files to web servers. "Chapter 13" covers the concept of XML import and explains how XML files can be quickly converted with databases.
There are many object models available for use in Access VBA, and in this book, the author introduces the Access object model, DAO object model, and ADO object model through examples (accompanied by illustrations). These three object models are considered the most important basic object models for database operations. Therefore, the book uses examples and illustrations to highlight key points and operations, making it easy for readers to understand practical design applications. By gaining a basic understanding of object models, readers can quickly combine database object concepts and easily design various VBA programs.
In summary, this book covers a broad scope and focuses primarily on Access VBA program design, enabling readers to quickly apply the examples in the book to create their own programs and expand the application areas of Access 2003.
At the end of this book, the simplified Chinese edition was successfully published. Special thanks go to Du Jianxia, Xie Jiawen, and Lu Zhen for completing the final draft. We also thank all relevant staff and teachers for their many years of teaching experience, which helped make this book a reality. Wishing everyone good health and all the best.
