This book is the teacher's manual for the third volume of "College English" (New Edition), "Comprehensive Course," and is intended for teacher reference. The book is composed of the following sections: lesson plans for units 1 to 8; answer keys for exercises; reference translations for Text A and Text B. The lesson plans in this book are strictly compiled according to the requirements of the "College English Teaching Syllabus" (Revised Edition) regarding reading, listening, speaking, writing, and translation, and strive to reflect the achievements of college English teaching reforms in recent years. The arrangement of teaching content focuses on cultivating students' comprehensive use of English skills. Each unit lesson plan is structured into the following four parts:
1. Reference Lesson Plan: Includes the arrangement of class hours and content for each unit. Each unit generally requires five class hours. The theme related to the text runs through the entire lesson plan. The teaching content is divided into three parts: pre-reading activities, during-reading activities, and post-reading activities. Pre-reading activities aim to activate students' existing knowledge schemas; during-reading activities continuously provide learning tasks to ensure students actively participate in classroom learning; post-reading activities offer students opportunities to practice, helping them expand their acquired knowledge and language skills, and comprehensively cultivating their practical abilities in reading, listening, speaking, writing, and translation.
2. Text Analysis: Includes an analysis of the text's genre, textual structure, rhetorical devices, and writing characteristics.
3. Cultural Notes: Includes author biographies, character introductions, and background knowledge related to the text, such as British and American cultural education, social life, and customs.
4. Language Learning: Includes annotations on difficult points in the text, as well as examples of sentence patterns and idiomatic usage. Key words selected from Text A and requiring repeated practice are annotated as language points with accompanying examples. Due to the polysemy of words in English, their usage is explained. Whether or not to explain these points to students and when to do so can be flexibly determined by the teacher.
When arranging teaching activities, teachers can selectively use the above content based on their actual teaching situation.
