Features: Since the publication of Contemporary World Economy and Politics as a recommended teaching material for "Two Courses" in ordinary colleges and universities across China in June 2003, it has been widely welcomed by college teachers and students nationwide. To enable everyone to stay updated on the evolving world situation and China's foreign policy, a year later, we have once again carefully revised the textbook. This revision does not alter the basic framework of the textbook but primarily adds necessary supplements in response to new developments in the international situation, economic and political trends, and China's foreign policy. The revision mainly includes the following aspects: (1) Reflecting on the new changes in the international and regional situation over the past year, adding new content such as the expansion of the European Union, the Russian presidential election, the Iraq issue, energy issues, and the North Korean nuclear issue (see Chapter, Chapter 2, Chapter 6); (2) Further analysis and discussion on the issue of the world order (see Chapter 2); (3) Summarizing and generalizing the new developments in China's foreign policy (see Chapter 2, Chapter 7); (4) Supplementing new data (see Chapter, Chapter 4, Chapter 7). At the same time, some modifications have been made to the text in each chapter. This revision has made adjustments to the content of Chapter 7, adding some new content. First, changes have been made to some section titles and related content, such as changing the title of Section to "China's Foreign Policy and Foreign Relations Before Reform and Opening Up," changing the title of Section to "China's Foreign Policy and Foreign Relations in the Early Years of the People's Republic," changing the title of the third item in Section to "U.S.-Led Anti-Soviet Alliance and the Normalization of Relations with Western Countries in the 1970s," and changing the title of the third item in the fourth section to "China's International Strategy and Concepts After the Cold War." These changes aim to make the hierarchical structure clearer and the themes more distinct. Second, in the second item of the second section "China's Foreign Policy Enters a New Phase," new content has been added, such as China's active participation in regional cooperation, establishing a free trade area with ASEAN, and promoting security and economic cooperation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Finally, in the third item of the fourth section "China's International Strategy and Concepts After the Cold War," the "human-centered" aspect of foreign policy has been added. In the context of the development trend of multipolar world politics and economic globalization, the world situation is changing rapidly and is overwhelming. In the revision of the textbook, we strive to reflect these changes as comprehensively and accurately as possible. The specific revision work of the 2nd edition is carried out by the original authors of each chapter.
