How to treat balanitis and do it safely?

Patient's question:

I have some whitehead-like particles on my glans, and they are particularly red and rough. Lately, when I urinate, there is always a white discharge coming out, and it is extremely itchy. I went to see a doctor and was told it is glans inflammation. Please ask: How can I treat balanitis, and what are the safer methods?

Doctor's answer:

Balanoposthitis, which is divided into balanitis and posthitis, can be infectious or non-infectious. In clinical diagnosis, infectious balanoposthitis is more common. The infectious type is often caused by unprotected sex, transmitting Candida albicans, Trichomonas vaginalis, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, or other bacteria. Alternatively, it may result from excessive foreskin, inadequate hygiene, leading to the accumulation of unclean substances between the foreskin and glans, known as smegma, which can irritate the local foreskin and mucosa, causing inflammation again. Based on your current symptoms, it is more likely that the condition is caused by balanitis. You do not need to be too anxious. If there are no other discomforts, you can focus on careful observation for now.
