How to treat epididymitis quickly

Patient's question:

I am an office white-collar worker. Throughout the day, I sit at my desk and am very busy, so I rarely get up to move around. Because of this, I was recently diagnosed with epididymitis. Now, I am in constant pain every day and don't know what to do. Please ask: How can epididymitis be treated quickly?

Doctor's answer:

(1) General treatment involves resting in bed, using a scrotal support or a specially designed soft pad to hold the scrotum, which can alleviate symptoms. For severe pain, painkillers can be used. Local heat therapy can relieve symptoms and promote inflammation reduction. However, early use of heat therapy may relieve pain but also carries the risk of spreading infection. Therefore, early local cold compresses with ice packs are recommended. Sexual activity and physical labor can exacerbate infection, so they should be avoided.
(2) Antibiotics should be selected based on the sensitivity of the bacteria. Typically, intravenous medication is administered for 1–2 weeks, followed by oral antibiotics for 2–4 weeks, to prevent the condition from becoming chronic inflammation.
(3) If antibiotic treatment is ineffective and testicular edema is suspected, orchidectomy with epididymal drainage should be performed. The epididymal parietal layer should be incised longitudinally or transversely, but care must be taken to avoid damaging the epididymal tubules.
