According to UNESCO statistics, among the world's cultural classics, the book with the largest number of translations published abroad is the Bible, and the second is Laozi. This shows that Laozi is one of the great thinkers shared by China and the entire human race. In the classic works of Confucianism, the respect and reverence of Confucius for Laozi, the founder of Taoism, are recorded. For example, the Book of Rites mentions Confucius asking Laozi about rites, while the Analects expresses Confucius's aspiration to emulate Laozi. Even the academic and philosophical work I Ching, which Confucius compiled, highly praises Laozi's idea of "governing through non-action."
Laozi's philosophy added a clear and natural breeze to traditional Chinese culture. Later, it stood shoulder to shoulder with Confucianism and Buddhism, becoming one of the three major mainstreams of traditional Chinese culture and attracting widespread attention from scholars and writers of all eras. Its original text contains only over 5,000 characters, yet there are over a thousand interpretations and commentaries on it...
