Features: "Practical French Interpretation (Level 2)" is designed and written in accordance with the requirements of the "National Translation Professional Qualification (Level) Examination" interpreting syllabus. Based on years of interpreting practice and teaching experience, the authors, starting from the of interpreting activities, take thematic modules as the main thread and practice as the focus, supplemented by appropriate skill explanations and vocabulary expansion. The aim is to expose learners to a wide range of interpreting topics and challenges to better adapt to real-world needs. The content of this textbook is extensive, covering numerous fields such as politics, diplomacy, society, culture, economy, finance, trade and economic relations, law, and environmental protection. It aims to help learners familiarize themselves with basic vocabulary and common terminology in these fields, master the main techniques and methods of consecutive interpreting, and thereby further improve their interpreting skills, preparing them for the interpreting qualification examination. The textbook consists of 16 units, each comprising the following sections: Text Interpretation, Interpretation Techniques, Vocabulary Expansion, and Interpretation Practice. At the end of all 16 units, reference translations are provided for both Text Interpretation and Interpretation Practice. The Text Interpretation section includes one French-to-Chinese and one Chinese-to-French text each. The explanation for each text consists of three parts: Vocabulary Preview, Interpretation Text, and Interpretation Commentary. The Vocabulary Preview lists the more challenging words, phrases, and sentences in the text, allowing learners to preview and memorize these difficulties using reference materials and other resources before translating the entire text. This process is similar to the vocabulary preparation an interpreter would do before engaging in actual interpreting activities based on the topic. Since learners have a preliminary understanding of the text's challenges, they can focus more on techniques and expression handling during interpretation training. After completing the interpretation exercises, learners should carefully read the Interpretation Commentary, flexibly grasp the relevant theories and techniques, and repeatedly refine and improve their own translations until they are satisfied. We recommend that learners do not immediately read the reference translation after completing the interpretation exercises. Instead, they should first consult the commentary, revise and polish their own translations, and then compare their translations with the reference translations with specific questions in mind. Only in this way can learners, through independent thinking, learn from the reference translations' better expressions and methods, achieving continuous improvement.
