Author: PETS Proposition Group

Publish Date: 2004-07-01
Features: In 1999, the National Education Examination Center of China introduced the Public English Test System (PETS) to the public. Its main objectives are: (1) to rationalize the relationships among existing English tests; (2) to provide the public with a clear and scientifically and normatively higher examination system with defined levels, to more fully assess candidates' language proficiency and better serve China's reform and opening-up and the expansion of foreign exchanges. This system includes five levels and can meet the needs of different English proficiency levels. To help candidates better understand and prepare for this exam, we conducted a thorough study of the PETS examination syllabi and related materials and organized experienced college English teachers to write the "Comprehensive Analysis of PETS Examination Content and Supplementary Exercises" (Levels 1-5). This book has been widely welcomed by readers since its publication. With the revision of the PETS examination syllabus, we have also adjusted and revised the content of this "Comprehensive Analysis of PETS Examination Content and Supplementary Exercises" to better serve the readers. Following the same format as the previous edition, each level is divided into three chapters.
Chapter 1 covers test design, key points analysis, and matters candidates should pay attention to when answering questions. It is written by authoritative figures with in-depth research on each level of the exam, providing a detailed analysis of the basic ideas behind the test design and the key points of each section of the test, while also pointing out the matters candidates should pay attention to based on their actual situation.
Chapter 2 offers targeted exercises for each section of the test, arranged according to the structure of the test papers at each level. It allows readers to assess their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as their mastery of relevant language knowledge, so they can identify and address issues in a timely manner. At the end of this chapter, there are transcripts of the listening sections and answers to all the exercises for reference.
Chapter 3 is a mock test paper, with difficulty, skill requirements, and key points that closely resemble the actual exam. It is designed to help readers assess their overall English proficiency and estimate their performance in the official exam.
The accompanying CD and tape include the listening materials from Chapters 2 and 3, recorded by British and American experts who have a good understanding of each level, to help readers practice listening. Due to time constraints and the limitations of the authors, there may be some inaccuracies. We welcome valuable feedback from experts, teachers, and learners to make improvements for future revisions.
