What are the common treatments for patients with balanitis?

Patient's question:

My husband has recently been experiencing discomfort in his lower body and was diagnosed with an illness after a hospital examination. Seeing him often in pain makes me very worried. Could you please ask the doctor what are the preferred treatments for balanitis?

Doctor's answer:

Balanitis is the inflammation of the inner foreskin and glans penis. It is characterized by edema, redness, exudation, and erosion. Secondary infection may lead to purulent discharge, easily forming ulcers, and causing pain. The recurrence of this condition can be divided into two categories: ① Simple or non-infectious factors: Except for physiological phimosis, excessive foreskin, the accumulation of smegma after sexual maturity, or rare mechanical injury factors that can cause redness and swelling of the glans and the onset of inflammatory changes; ② Infectious or transmissible diseases, which include all cases of balanitis not caused by non-infectious factors, meaning balanitis induced by pathogenic microorganisms as the primary factor. Among these, bacterial and fungal infections are the most common.
