Organic Chemistry (Fourth Edition)

Author: Gao Hongbin, Editor-in-Chief
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1982-03-01
Features: This book is a national-level planning textbook for the "15th Five-Year Plan" of general higher education, and a premium project (Category 1) under the "Higher Education Press's 100 Excellent Course Textbook Construction Program." Based on the features of the previous three editions, the main changes in this edition are as follows: In terms of structure, it combines aliphatic and aromatic compounds but differs from conventional mixed-structure systems. In content arrangement, the book consists of 20 chapters. In addition to merging alkenes and alkynes into one chapter in the third edition and discussing them based on the reactions performed, this edition further groups alkanes and cycloalkanes, unsaturated halogenated hydrocarbons and aromatic halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols and phenols, and ethers and epoxides into separate chapters. are discussed together based on functional groups, while individual characteristics are addressed according to structural features. Two additional chapters on sulfur-, phosphorus-, and silicon-containing organic compounds and lipids have been added. Chapters on cycloalkanes, halogenated aromatic compounds, aromatic sulfonic acids, and organic synthesis have been removed. This edition further strengthens the foundation, incorporates practical applications, and appropriately adds new achievements in organic chemistry and related disciplines, enhancing the understanding of functional groups and interatomic interactions within molecules. The book has removed some of the reference answers to exercises that were appended in the third edition. Higher Education Press has separately published the "Study Guide for Organic Chemistry" to accompany this book. Additionally, the book is accompanied by teaching materials (CD-ROM). This book can serve as a textbook for organic chemistry in chemical engineering, applied chemistry, and material-related disciplines at higher education institutions, as well as for other relevant disciplines and general readers.
