The selection of teaching content is centered on the purpose of nurturing students, aiming to inspire and strengthen their awareness of physical education and health, improve their physical abilities, enhance physical and mental health, and cultivate the habit of exercising. It incorporates traditional sports for health preservation, ethnic traditional sports fitness methods, and advanced theories and methods from domestic and international school physical education textbooks. It emphasizes the cultivation of students' lifelong physical education abilities and prioritizes their physical and mental health. At the same time, it attaches importance to the ideological, scientific, contemporary, practical, and engaging aspects of the teaching content system, striving to create a comprehensive physical education textbook for general universities that integrates education, health, entertainment, and other content and methods, with distinctive characteristics. The book is divided into two parts: Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 is a concise introduction to holistic education theory (Chapters 1 to 9), which explains the principles and composition of physical education in an accessible manner, explores the close relationship between modern society and sports, discusses the functions and development of sports, the role, objectives, organizational forms, and relevant administrative regulations of physical education in universities, as well as the content and methods of physical education learning, physical exercise, and sports health for college students. It also briefly introduces the content and methods of medical supervision and physical fitness evaluation during exercise, the organization of sports competitions, and the selection of sports projects for common physical exercises such as football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, gymnastics, games, and martial arts, along with their exercise value and application methods. Additionally, the book introduces methods of physical exercise such as body shaping, sports tourism, sports games, roller skating, bowling, billiards, and sports dancing that are often chosen for daily leisure and entertainment. The book is well-structured, with rich content, illustrated with images, easy to understand, and highly practical. After review, it can be used as a teaching material for physical education courses in general universities (including vocational colleges, higher vocational colleges, and adult colleges), as well as a guide for college students' self-directed physical education learning, exercise, and evaluation.
