Publish Date: 2005-04-01
Features: This "Manual" is a supplementary teaching material designed to accompany Gao Hongye's Western Economics (3rd Edition, published by China Renmin University Press). Written by the original authors of the book, its purpose is to provide various materials related to the content of the aforementioned 3rd Edition, thereby enriching and deepening the understanding of the 3rd Edition's content, which in turn aids readers in their learning or teaching. The materials provided in this Manual are divided into seven parts, each with relatively independent content. This allows readers to choose what to read based on their needs. Specifically, the main content of the seven parts is as follows.
Part 1 is the Solutions to Exercises. This part provides answers to most of the review and discussion questions in the Western Economics (3rd Edition).
Part 2 is Case Studies. This section describes real-world cases to reflect the connection between Western economics and reality.
Part 3 is Background Information on Important Theories. This part enables readers to learn about the brief history of the development of some important theories while studying Western economics, allowing them to better understand the past and present of mainstream Western economics.
Part 4 is Introductions to Important Literature. This section outlines some works that have significantly influenced Western mainstream economic theory, giving readers a preliminary understanding of classic literature.
Part 5 is Clarifications of Difficulties. This part aims to help readers solve some common questions that may arise while using the Western Economics textbook. At the same time, it provides a more in-depth discussion of some corresponding theories in the textbook, which is beneficial for readers with a higher level of understanding to further their studies.
Part 6 is an Expansion of Mathematical Content. This part provides a more rigorous mathematical explanation of some issues in the Western Economics (3rd Edition). Through this section, readers can also lay a foundation for studying higher-level economic theories.
Part 7 is Biographies of Economists. By reading the biographies of economists who have significantly influenced the development of Western economics, readers can better understand modern Western economics. The order of the content in each part largely follows the order in which the content appears in the aforementioned Western Economics (3rd Edition). For example, in the "Biographies of Economists" section of the Manual, since Arrow's contributions are primarily related to microeconomics, and microeconomics appears earlier in the 3rd Edition than macroeconomics, Arrow is presented before Keynes, who laid the foundation for macroeconomics.
