Features: This book is the sixth volume of the intensive reading course for the "College English" series textbooks, designed for students taking the College English Test Band 6. All the texts in this volume are original, with minor edits in some places. The selection of materials focuses on the (interest), (knowledge), and (thought-provoking nature) of the articles. The book consists of ten units, suitable for a semester-long course. The content layout of each unit is similar to the previous volumes but with some modifications. The general principle is to strengthen comprehensive exercises based on the knowledge learned in the previous volumes. The annotations for the texts primarily introduce relevant background knowledge, with explanations for some difficult words and sentences for students to refer to during preview. Each lesson includes comprehension questions and discussion topics. The vocabulary exercises in this volume are divided into two parts: practicing the active forms of words used in the texts and practicing phrasal verbs. The latter follows the same approach as the fifth volume, where two common verbs are selected for each lesson, and the phrasal verbs derived from these verbs are systematically organized, summarized, and introduced with exercises. To cultivate students' comprehensive language application skills, this volume retains cloze exercises (CLOZE) and error correction exercises for passages. These exercises are of moderate difficulty and require appropriate guidance and inspiration from the teacher. This volume also introduces sentence and passage translation exercises from Chinese to English. The passage translation exercises are more challenging and require students to have a solid grasp of common words, phrases, and sentence patterns from the texts. In the reading exercises section, each unit is accompanied by a reading material similar in content to the texts, along with several comprehension questions. The newly added science and technology reading articles are primarily for self-study but can also be used by teachers as needed. The writing exercises in this volume focus on training students in writing abstracts, writing essays based on charts and graphs, and writing daily letters. Two sets of self-assessment tests are newly added and placed after the fifth and tenth units, respectively, for students to consolidate their learning. The reference answers are provided at the end of the book.
