Features: First, let's talk about the importance of self-learning ability:
Firstly, the strength of self-learning ability is related to the efficiency of relearning after entering the workforce. A considerable number of students may directly enter the workforce after graduating from high school. Science and technology are developing rapidly, and to adapt to social needs throughout their lives, the knowledge acquired in high school is far from enough. Due to the needs of society and work, we must continuously learn on the job, and at this stage, learning mainly relies on self-study.
Secondly, for those who go on to university, self-learning ability is also very important, affecting the quality of university studies. As everyone knows, university studies differ greatly from high school studies. The main characteristics of university studies are: a vast and systematic body of knowledge, strong theoretical focus, fast-paced lectures, extensive note-taking, reduced classroom teaching time, increased self-study time, and the expectation that students independently explore the essence of what the teacher lectures on after class. Teachers no longer demand the same level of strictness from university students as they do from high school students. University students primarily manage their own time and learning, which requires them to possess strong self-learning abilities. If self-learning ability is not well-developed in high school, students often struggle to adapt to university life after entering university. They may read slowly, fail to grasp the key points in lectures, and have difficulty with previewing. During lectures, they may not process information quickly, resulting in poor listening quality. Consequently, they must spend a lot of time after class to make up for what they missed during lectures, leading to passive learning. Due to poor self-learning ability, the adaptation period for university studies is extended.
How can we cultivate students' self-learning ability? The key to developing students' self-learning ability lies in cultivating their self-learning habits. It is essential to stimulate students' interest, strengthen their awareness of self-study, and develop middle school students' self-learning ability through previewing. Previewing is the first encounter students have with new knowledge, requiring them to read and think independently. Therefore, students who consistently preview tend to have faster reading speeds than those who do not, more agile minds, and the ability to analyze, summarize, generalize, and compare new knowledge. As a result, they can quickly identify problems and grasp the key points. With the development of self-learning ability, the quality of learning in the middle school stage will also improve accordingly, which can promote further learning in university and future careers. Thus, self-learning ability is related to a person's entire life. Therefore, the notion that previewing is merely for the purpose of listening to lectures is incorrect, as the benefits of previewing extend far beyond that.
If a middle school student only relies on the knowledge taught by teachers, it is far from enough. The self-learning ability developed through previewing will enable students to continuously acquire more knowledge. Lifelong education has become a thing of the past; in the 21st century, humans must constantly learn new knowledge and skills to adapt to the ever-changing demands of society. Lifelong learning is the expectation for every ambitious individual who does not want to be left behind by society. Once a person enters the workforce, or even if they have a highly sought-after job in the 21st century, they still need to learn, and this learning primarily relies on self-study. Therefore, self-learning ability is the fundamental guarantee for continuously expanding and updating one's knowledge.
