What are the symptoms of balanitis?

Patient's question:

I got a check-up last week and found that I have balanitis. It seems to be getting worse recently, with some bleeding and discharge, and it looks like there are also blisters. Is the condition getting serious? Please ask: What are the symptoms of balanitis?

Doctor's answer:

At the onset of the disease, mild cases may only present with redness of the glans and inner foreskin accompanied by itching. Severe cases may experience recurrent pain and tenderness. In later stages, superficial ulcers may develop on the inner foreskin, accompanied by yellow or cottage cheese-like discharge, often with a foul odor. Significant local redness and swelling can interfere with urination and cause dysuria. Balanitis can be completely prevented through good hygiene practices. For individuals with phimosis (where the foreskin cannot be retracted), circumcision can also be an effective preventive measure.
If the condition is detected, retract the foreskin and use a 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution to soak and clean the affected area. Then apply an antibiotic ointment and use antibiotics appropriately. The condition typically resolves within a few days.
