Is it a problem with breast milk?

Patient's question:

My baby is a little over three months old and has been exclusively breastfed. Around one and a half months, I developed mastitis due to excessive milk production (but I didn't have a fever or pus, and the doctor said I could continue breastfeeding, so I did). After treatment with anti-inflammatory medication, it healed, and I haven't had any further lumps or inflammation. Now, my baby has diarrhea, and the doctor says it's dysentery.

Doctor's answer:

Generally, it has little to do with breast milk. First, the stool of breastfed babies will definitely be looser and softer, and 2-3 bowel movements per day are normal. If you're not sure, you can take some probiotics, have a lighter diet for the mother, and see if it improves. With diarrhea, the frequency will be much higher, accompanied by abdominal sounds, changes in stool color, even mucus, or loss of appetite. If there's no improvement after taking probiotics and paying attention to the diet, you should see a doctor.
