Features: A World of Music Appreciation is one of the General Education Series for Universities jointly organized and compiled by five universities: Zhejiang Normal University, Hangzhou Normal University, Wenzhou Normal University, Shaoxing University of Arts and Sciences, and Huzhou Normal University. The book is divided into four parts: Western Classical Music, Ancient Chinese Music, and Modern and Contemporary Chinese Music. For the convenience of students, each part consists of two sections: an overview of music from different periods and music appreciation. The book focuses on guiding university students to appreciate representative and excellent music works from ancient and modern China. It emphasizes the music (general overview) and stylistic characteristics of various historical periods in both the West and China, introducing representative composers, their creative ideas, artistic achievements, historical contributions, and music-related knowledge relevant to music appreciation. It should be noted that the book dedicates a section of comparable length to Western modern music and its works appreciation, aiming to address the shortcomings of previous general university music appreciation textbooks in this area. Additionally, the book includes a Featured Work Recommendations section in each part, providing teachers with reference material for teaching.
