How should benign prostatic hyperplasia be treated?

Patient's question:

These days, I don't know what's wrong, but I always feel a strong urge to urinate. However, when I go to the bathroom, it feels like there isn't much urine. Sometimes it's just a drop or two. During morning urination, I even noticed that my stream was split. After consulting, it turns out to be benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). My question is: What should be done to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia?

Doctor's answer:

Pay special attention to the following points during winter. When going out, not only should you ensure that your underwear and thermal leggings are warm, dry, and comfortable, but you must also avoid sitting on cold benches, stone benches, or gym equipment in places like central park gardens, community parks, or fitness centers. Even when hiking, avoid sitting on rocks or steps. Elderly people with weaker constitutions should be mindful of rain and wind protection during both rest and outdoor activities to prevent colds. This is because once a cold occurs, many cold medications taken orally can worsen urinary difficulties in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, even leading to acute urinary retention. Common medications include containing chlorpheniramine maleate, such as Ganmaotong, Superfast Cold Capsules, Wuchengyin, and Ganmaoling. Some elderly people need to urinate every half hour, even though each time is not much but quite relieving.
