The Stove, Iron Pot, and Air Conditioner brothers reunite this winter, as they only meet once a year. Therefore, they have a lot to say. Listen:
The Stove, the eldest brother, speaks first: "In the early days of liberation, my family cooked meals just like other rural households. We used brick-built stoves like me. There were four pots on top: two large pots for cooking and two small pots for boiling water and washing dishes. Many auspicious patterns were painted on me. Every year, when the north wind blew, the stove chamber behind me became the children's 'hot spot.' After school, children would rush to the stove chamber, sitting on rough wooden stools, willingly serving as 'head cooks.' In those poor days, warming the stove became a joy and a pleasure in their lives. They were immersed in my warm embrace. Now, none of them want me anymore." The Stove, heartbroken, rubbed its eyes with its hands.
The second brother, the Iron Pot, is cheerful and can be described as having a big heart that can accommodate a boat. He comforts the Stove: "Ah! Heroes don’t mention their past glories. Aren’t we the same? Back then, I was a fashionable heating tool. Every newlywed’s dowry included me, made of aluminum or copper. After cooking, the water was hot, so I’d be filled with gurgling sounds and stuffed into the bedding. Hoo! Keeping hands and feet warm at night—how comfortable that was!"
"You, the younger brother, don’t brag either. Like an old woman, you ramble on and on. You’re also like an umbrella on a sunny day—out of use." The Stove said with a hint of mockery.
"Yes, out of use," the Iron Pot sighed, feeling sad too.
"Not like the younger brother, the Air Conditioner, who is so favored." At this point, the "gentle and refined" younger brother—Air Conditioner—speaks up: "Don’t be sad, two older brothers. Although everyone fights for me now, bringing warmth and coolness to people, perhaps in a few years, I’ll be nothing but scrap metal. Don’t you see? The 'honeycombs' on high-rise buildings are an eyesore and harmful to the environment. My retirement is inevitable. This is the inevitable trend of social development. You two older brothers don’t need to wallow in self-pity. You should be happy."
The younger brother’s words comforted the two older brothers greatly. The Iron Pot, full of, says: "Over the past 50 years, people’s heating methods have changed greatly. Each generation has improved upon the last. Life is getting better and better—like sesame flowers blooming higher and higher. We should be happy."
"Hey, where’s the Stove brother? He’s gone?"
"He’s planning to use his bricks to build a flower bed!"
