Features: High fever, with a body temperature of 39℃ or higher, is classified as this disease. The majority of cases are caused by acute infections, while others are due to allergies or reactions, connective tissue diseases, blood diseases, absorption of necrotic tissue and blood decomposition products, physical and chemical factors, and malignant tumors. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is referred to as "excessive heat," "excess heat," or "afternoon fever."
Key Diagnostic Points:
1. A history of external pathogens or exposure to infectious diseases.
2. A sustained body temperature of 39℃ or higher.
3. Inflammation in a specific system.
4. Ancillary tests: Chest X-ray, routine blood and urine tests, blood and urine amylase, urinary bilirubin, liver function tests, Widal reaction, ultrasound, lumbar puncture, CT scan, or magnetic resonance imaging showing positive results may aid in diagnosis.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Classification:
1. Exterior Cold: Chills, fever, headache, no sweating, nasal congestion with a runny nose or cough without phlegm, hoarseness, thin white tongue, and floating, tense pulse.
2. Exterior Heat: Fever without aversion to wind or slight aversion to wind, thirst and headache, cough with yellow phlegm, red edges and tips of the tongue, thin white or slightly yellow tongue, and floating, rapid pulse.
3. Exterior Dampness: Body heaviness and pain as the main symptom, slight chills and fever, no sweating or minimal sweating, thin white and greasy tongue, and slow, gentle pulse.
4. Phlegm-Heat Stagnation in the Lungs: Body heat with sweating, thirst, stuffy or painful chest and hypochondria, rapid and difficult cough, thick or rust-colored phlegm, red tongue, yellow tongue, and slippery, rapid pulse.
5. Liver-Spleen Damp-Heat: Fever with bitter taste in the mouth, hypochondriac pain, fullness and distension in the upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting, or jaundice of the body and eyes, yellow and greasy tongue, and slippery, rapid pulse.
6. Bladder Damp-Heat: Body heat with thirst, frequent urination, urgent and painful urination with difficulty urinating, short and dark urine, or even bloody urine, lower abdominal or waist pain, yellow and greasy or dry tongue, and slippery, rapid pulse.
7. Heat Entering the Collateral and Blood: Severe body heat at night, restlessness, thirst, sweating, faint rashes, or even delirium and incoherent speech, purple and dry tongue, yellow and dry tongue with minimal moisture, and thin or pulse.
8. Heat Entering the Heart Protector: Severe body heat that feels like holding hands, delirium and incoherent speech, restlessness, phlegm stasis with rough breathing, stiff and short tongue, purple tongue, yellow and dry tongue, and thin, rapid, and slippery pulse.
Treatment Methods:
[Formula 1] External Application of Heat-Reducing Powder: Rhubarb, gardeniae, and silkworm pupa each 4 grams, and Achyranthes bidentata 2 grams, and Asarum 1 gram.
[Usage] Grind the herbs into a fine powder. Take 5–8 grams per time, mix with vinegar to form a paste, apply to both points, wrap and fix for 4–6 hours, then remove. If ineffective, repeat the application.
[Indication] High fever with thirst and delirium in children.
[Formula 2] Gypsum 30 grams, mung beans 30 grams, and gardeniae seeds 30 grams.
[Usage] Grind the herbs into a fine powder, mix with egg white to form a paste, divide into five portions, and apply to the soles of the feet, palms, and below the xiphoid process. Wrap and fix, then remove after the fever subsides.
[Indication] High fever with thirst and delirium in children.
[Formula 3] Peach kernel, almond kernel, gardeniae seeds, and jujube seeds each 3 grams, and flour 5 grams.
[Usage] Bake the herbs, grind them into powder, mix with flour and egg white, divide into two cakes, and apply to the points of both hands. Wrap and fix.
[Indication] High fever in children.
[Formula 4] 2 eggs, boiled and peeled, with an appropriate amount of Euonymus alatus and mugwort.
[Usage] Boil the peeled eggs in the herbal liquid for 10 minutes. First roll the eggs 10 times over the child's forehead, then in turn over both solar plexuses, the back of the neck, both sides of the back, the chest area, the navel, the elbow pits, and the armpits, each 10 times. Replace with a cold egg and alternate. After rolling, take another boiled egg, cut it in half, remove the shell and yolk, and overlap the two egg whites. Place a silver ring in the center and apply to the jiuwei point below the xiphoid process. Remove the herbs after 1–2 hours, and the ring will turn green.
