What are the methods for diagnosing dead sperm?

Patient's question:

I got married to my wife, but we haven't had children yet. Last month, under my mother-in-law's urging, we went to the hospital for a check-up. The results showed that the problem was with me—I have male infertility. I feel really frustrated and also very self-conscious. Could you please tell me: what are the diagnostic methods for azoospermia?

Doctor's answer:

In semen analysis, many men have normal sperm counts and morphology, but a large number of sperm are in a state of impending death, which is known as asthenozoospermia. Asthenozoospermia can be diagnosed based on the following symptoms. Some patients have no clinical diagnostic symptoms, while others may have a history of chronic prostatitis, orchitis, or epididymitis. Some patients may experience premature ejaculation, low libido, or nocturnal emissions. The main basis for diagnosing asthenozoospermia is semen analysis. Generally, if the non-viable sperm count exceeds 40% in semen analysis, it is referred to as excessive asthenozoospermia. In routine semen analysis or prostatic fluid analysis, neutrophils are often repeatedly detected.
