Patient's question:
My foreskin seems a bit long. When it's soft, the skin is stretched out a lot, and when it's erect, the head doesn't show. Also, when I shower, I feel the area of the glans has a strong odor. I'm worried that if this continues, I might get balanitis. How should I treat foreskin adhesion?Doctor's answer:
The foreskin refers to the double-layered skin of the penis that folds over the glans. In infancy, the foreskin is typically longer, covering the glans and urethral meatus, which is known as physiological phimosis. As one grows older, the penis and foreskin gradually develop. During puberty, the foreskin retracts backward, exposing the glans by adulthood. Circumcision, a minor surgical procedure, is used to treat conditions such as excessive foreskin or phimosis. The procedure takes approximately 20–30 minutes and does not require hospitalization. The risk is very low, but possible complications include removing too little foreskin, resulting in a tight ring, or the inability of the glans to protrude outward.
