How can balanitis be treated to improve?

Patient's question:

Hello! I noticed patches on my glans with different colors, and there's a ring of white substance around the edge of my glans that can't be washed off. Is this condition caused by balanitis? If it is balanitis, could you please tell me how to treat it to improve the situation?

Doctor's answer:

Phimosis, also known as balanitis, can be infectious or non-infectious, with infectious balanitis being more common in clinical diagnosis. Infectious cases are often caused by unprotected sexual contact, transmitting Candida albicans, Trichomonas vaginalis, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, or other bacteria. Non-infectious factors are usually due to excessive foreskin, inadequate hygiene, or the accumulation of unclean substances between the foreskin and glans, known as smegma, which can irritate the local foreskin and mucosa, leading to inflammation. In the early stages of balanitis, the affected area becomes red, the penis skin swells, and there is a sensation of heat and itching in the glans.
