How to treat varicocele well

Patient's question:

I have been married to my wife for more than six years, but we have never had children. Recently, my wife and I went to the hospital for a check-up. It turns out that she is fine, but they said I have varicocele, which affects the quality of my sperm, making it difficult to conceive. I am really frustrated. Please ask: How should varicocele be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Patients with varicocele who experience only mild discomfort can opt for medication control or scrotal support. If the pain is severe or there are concerns about infertility, high ligation surgery should be performed. During the surgery, the patient must first undergo local or upper body anesthesia, followed by an incision of about 2 to 3 centimeters above the groin. The swollen veins can then be ligated, a process that is simple and safe. For patients with bilateral varicocele or those who have undergone surgery previously, laparoscopic surgery can be considered to ligate the varicocele.
After the surgery, the dilated vein cluster gradually disappears, and the motility of sperm in most patients is expected to improve, along with stable semen quality. Mild varicocele without symptoms does not require treatment.
