The oldest, Baishi, was born in the second year of the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty, while the youngest, Shoushi Gong, was born in the eleventh year of the Guangxu era. These four masters were also adept in calligraphy, poetry, and prose, skillfully arranging seal characters according to the "Six Arts of Writing" and excelling in the composition of poetic meters, as well as in landscape, flower-and-bird paintings.
