Hu Shi Collection 12

Author: Ouyang Zhesheng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1998-11-01
Features: This volume is a collection of speeches by Hu Shih. Hu Shih was skilled in public speaking, and Mr. Liang Shiqiu once highly praised his speeches as having a "Churchill-like style." Unfortunately, the speeches of Hu Shih were largely excluded from his self-edited works such as Hu Shih's Literary Collection. The Selected Works of Hu Shih published by Wenxing Bookstore in Taipei in 1966 and Biographical Literature Publishing House in Taipei in 1969 both included a volume of speeches. In 1970, the Central Research Institute's Hu Shih Memorial Hall in Taipei edited and published Hu Shih's Speeches (three volumes), and in 1979, the Mainland Magazine Society in Taipei reprinted it. The speeches of Hu Shih collected in this volume range from the earliest published in 1918 to the latest in 1961, totaling 129 pieces, which are generally arranged in chronological order: Volume 1 is on literature and language, Volume 2 is on history, Volume 3 is on philosophy, Volume 4 is on education, Volume 5 is on life and society, Volume 6 is on science and culture, and Volume 7 is on current affairs and political commentary.
