The library is divided into two major book series: the Chinese Studies series, which began in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, comprehensively organizes academic works since modern China, aiming to provide a progressive path for contemporary reflection on the social and spiritual conditions of modern China; and the Western Studies series, which aims to systematically translate classic texts from Western civilization since ancient Greece and Rome, thereby showcasing the development and evolution of Western thought traditions and laying a solid textual foundation for addressing the core issues of modern China. This book is one of them. Plato (427-347 BC) was a famous ancient Greek idealist philosopher and thinker, and the first person to systematize idealist philosophy in the history of Western philosophy. His works and thoughts have had a very important influence on later generations. "The Statesman" is a representative work of Plato's later period, mainly discussing the art of the statesman, with the exposition of the harmony of virtue being a major feature. Plato's harmony of virtue is influenced by Pythagoras, Parmenides, and Socrates, and is mainly based on the theory of forms; the standard of the harmony of virtue is "the mean," its essence lies in "weaving," and its foundation is reason. He sought a model for governing the state for humanity, aiming to achieve the happiness of all the people.
