Features: Folklore is a discipline that studies various folk customs. Its establishment and development in China have spanned more than half a century, traversing a winding path. Currently, this discipline is expanding in breadth and depth, attracting increasing attention from people both domestically and internationally. To inherit and promote the excellent folk cultural heritage of all ethnic groups in China, foster mutual understanding and unity among them; and to meet the needs of folklore discipline development in China, our publishing house has decided to publish a large-scale series—Folklore Library—and has established an editorial committee for this purpose. This series will focus on introducing the customs and traditions of China's 55 ethnic minorities, including their housing, diet, clothing, production, transportation, marriage, family, villages, festivals, holidays, funerals, religion, morals, etiquette, oral literature, and more. To promote the development of folklore research, the series will also appropriately include specialized works and translations on folklore from both domestic and international scholars.
A saying goes, "Different winds in a thousand miles, different customs in a hundred." China is vast in territory and home to numerous ethnic groups, each having developed distinct and unique customs over long periods of historical development. We are fully aware that editing and publishing such a large-scale series is no easy task. We sincerely hope to receive strong support from folklore and ethnology experts, as well as readers, to make this series a true treasury of folk heritage from all ethnic groups.
