Patient's question:
26-year-old male I previously had prostatitis, and in the past few years, it has been well-controlled without recurrence. The other day, I planned to go for a follow-up check-up to see if everything is still fine. I'm worried that this condition might affect my health. Could you please tell me what are the symptoms of prostatitis?Doctor's answer:
The symptoms of prostatitis can generally be divided into five categories:(1) Systemic symptoms: Fatigue, weakness, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, high fever, chills, exhaustion, or sepsis may be exhibited. During sudden onset, systemic symptoms may overshadow local symptoms.
(2) Local symptoms: A heavy pressure sensation in the perineum or suprapubic region, which worsens with prolonged sitting or defecation, and radiates to the waist, lower abdomen, back, thighs, and other areas.
(3) Rectal symptoms: Rectal fullness, urgent defecation, and painful defecation, with white discharge from the urethra during bowel movements.
(4) Urinary symptoms: Burning pain during urination, urinary urgency, frequent urination, dribbling urine, and purulent urethral discharge. Edema of the bladder neck may cause difficulty urinating, a thin or intermittent urine stream, or urinary retention in severe cases.
(5) Sexual symptoms: Decreased libido, painful intercourse, premature ejaculation, and hematospermia.
