What are the general symptoms of varicocele?

Patient's question:

I am 25 years old. I experienced varicocele a while ago, and I took medication to treat it, but it has reappeared recently. Please ask: What are the symptoms of varicocele?

Doctor's answer:

1. Some patients with male infertility have no obvious symptoms, and it is only after being diagnosed with male infertility that they discover varicocele at the hospital. Among patients with varicocele, approximately two-thirds experience abnormal semen, leading to male infertility.
2. Localized swelling and pain are typical symptoms of varicocele, including swelling, heaviness, and pain in the scrotum or testicles. In severe cases, the swollen blood vessels can be clearly felt or seen as worm-like bulges in the scrotum. When the patient stands, the affected side of the scrotum and testicles will be significantly higher than the healthy side. The scrotal surface will show dilated and tortuous veins, which become more pronounced after prolonged standing or abdominal strain. Symptoms can reduce or disappear after lying down.
